Built Around Real Learning
We started Vriptex because too many people felt locked out of investment knowledge. Not anymore. Since 2019, we've been creating educational resources that actually make sense to regular folks who want to understand their money better.
Where This Started
Back in early 2019, a group of financial educators in Kamloops noticed something odd. People wanted to learn about investing, but most resources either talked down to them or used jargon nobody understood.
So we sat down in a borrowed office space and asked ourselves: what if we just explained things the way we'd explain them to a friend? What if we skipped the fancy terminology unless it actually mattered?
Six years later, we're still doing exactly that. Our team has grown, we've helped thousands of Canadians get comfortable with investment concepts, and we've learned a ton along the way. But the core idea hasn't changed one bit.
What Guides Our Work
These aren't values we put on a poster. They're the things we actually use when making decisions about what to teach and how to teach it.
Plain Language Wins
If we can't explain something without using three acronyms and two technical terms, we haven't understood it well enough ourselves. Clear beats clever every time.
Real Scenarios Matter
Theory is fine, but we focus on situations you'll actually encounter. What happens when markets drop? How do you compare two mutual funds? That's the stuff that matters.
Questions Welcome
There's no such thing as a dumb question about investing. If something confuses you, it probably confuses others too. We build entire lessons around common points of confusion.
Meet Someone From Our Team
Ainsley Thorburn joined us in 2021 after spending years trying to teach investment basics at community workshops. She got frustrated with how complicated everything was and decided there had to be a better way.
Now she designs most of our course materials, always testing them with real people first. If something doesn't click in her test runs, it doesn't make it into the final version. Simple as that.
- Designs curriculum based on common learning barriers
- Tests all materials with non-finance professionals first
- Updates content based on student feedback every quarter
- Runs monthly open sessions for concept clarification
How We Build Our Materials
Every piece of educational content we create goes through the same process. It takes longer this way, but the results speak for themselves.
Research Questions
We track what confuses people most. Support emails, workshop questions, online forums – we pay attention to where folks get stuck.
Draft Simply
First drafts aim for clarity above all else. We explain concepts like we're talking to someone over coffee, not writing a textbook.
Test Thoroughly
We run materials past people who don't work in finance. If they understand it, we're on the right track. If not, back to the drawing board.
Update Regularly
Markets change, regulations shift, and we learn better ways to explain things. Content gets reviewed and refreshed every few months.
See What We're Teaching
Our study materials cover everything from basic market concepts to portfolio construction strategies. All written in the same straightforward style you've seen here. Browse what's available and start with whatever interests you most.

Learning Happens At Your Pace
We don't believe in rushing through complex topics. Some people grasp portfolio theory in an afternoon. Others need a few weeks to let it sink in. Both approaches work fine.
Our materials stay available so you can revisit them whenever something doesn't quite click. And if you need to talk through a concept, our team holds regular office hours where you can ask whatever's on your mind.
